The Nest celebrates first

anniversary at Mowden

Mowden Hall School’s youngest pupils have been celebrating the first anniversary of The Nest with a special party complete with dancing and, of course, cake!

The Nest opened its doors in September 2025, extending Mowden Hall’s Early Years provision to welcome children from the age of two. Since opening, The Nest has provided a nurturing and stimulating environment where young children can begin their educational journey in the heart of the Northumbrian countryside.

The nursery offers flexible childcare for families and is open for 50 weeks of the year, providing continuity for children as they progress from The Nest into Treetops at age three and then into Reception and the wider Mowden Hall School community.

With experienced Early Years practitioners and low child-to-staff ratios, the focus is on getting to know every child as an individual and helping them develop confidence, independence and a love of learning through purposeful play and exploration.

Phil Sturt, Head of Mowden Hall School, said: “It is wonderful to see The Nest celebrating its first birthday. The decision to extend our Early Years provision to two-year-olds has been a really exciting development for Mowden, and seeing the children grow in confidence over their first year has been incredibly rewarding.

“The Nest has quickly become a special part of our school community. We want children to feel happy, secure and at home from their very first day with us, and The Nest gives our youngest children the time, space and support to explore, play and develop at their own pace.”

The Nest forms part of Mowden Hall’s integrated Early Years provision, alongside Treetops for three-year-olds. Children benefit from being part of the wider school from the very beginning, with access to specialist facilities, outdoor spaces and a continuous educational journey through to the end of Year 8.

As The Nest begins its second year, the nursery continues to provide children with a warm and welcoming start to their Mowden journey. Find out more, and enquire about places, by emailing admissions@mowdenhall.org.uk or call 01661 842147.
